Breast Reconstruction With Tram Flap Procedure

Women who lose one or both breasts as a result of mastectomy or other trauma or disease have several options for rebuilding a natural-looking breast. One common surgical method is tram flap reconstruction, which involves moving a flap of skin and blood vessels from one area of a patient’s body to the breast area.

Tram Flap Breast Reconstruction Before Flap Surgery

With flap surgery, tissue is taken from the back and tunneled to the front of the chest wall to support the reconstructed breast.

By using the patient’s own tissues for the transplant, surgeons avoid the usual risks of rejection and negative immune system reactions. And because blood vessels remain attached during the procedure, the healing process is much quicker.
