Ultherapy in Philadelphia Dr. Lohner sees patients from Bryn Mawr, Main Line, Rosemont, Philadelphia, and other cities throughout Pennsylvania for Ultherapy®. What is Ultherapy®? Ultherapy® is an FDA-approved procedure that uses ultrasound waves to tighten and tone the skin. These ultrasound waves penetrate into the deepest layers of skin where connective tissues are found. They then go to work tightening these tissues, so the result is smoother and firmer skin due to stimulation of collagen production. How is Ultherapy® Performed? The skin is first washed with a mild cleanser and then patted dry. Topical anesthesia may be applied in order to reduce the amount of pain felt during the procedure. An ultrasound device is then used to deliver heat and energy to tissues in deep layers of the skin. The device is calibrated so that it is able to “see” beneath the surface of the skin and delivers precisely the right amount of energy exactly where it is needed to tighten and tone the skin. The entire treatment takes anywhere from 30 to 60 minutes to complete. What are the benefits of Ultherapy®? Patients are able to notice tighter and firmer skin and a reduction in fine lines and wrinkles after having an Ultherapy® treatment. The results are very natural looking, so the skin does not appear to be excessively tight as is the case with many facelifts. Others tend to notice the improved results, yet are unaware the patient has had a procedure performed. When will Results be Noticed? Some results are present right away; however, more dramatic results can take anywhere from one to three months to obtain. The maximum benefits are noticeable at around the six month mark, since this is typically how long it takes for the maximum amount of collage to grow. What are the Side Effects of Ultherapy®? The skin may be tender and sore to the touch for a few days afterwards. There may also be some light swelling or bruising present. In rare cases, patients may experience bleeding or extreme swelling, and these are signs of a serious reaction that requires immediate medical attention. How long will the Results of Ultherapy® Last? This varies between patients, but many are able to maintain results for anywhere from one to two years.
